Our History
Riccarton Clinic and After-Hours Medical Centre was founded in August 1991 by Dr Charlie Baycroft and Dr Andrew Gin as the first independent after-hours medical practice in Christchurch. This was an innovative step at the time and provided patients with an affordable and high-quality service for their daily general practice and after hour's needs.
We moved into new purpose-built facilities in 2007 which simultaneously extended the range of services and gave the opportunity to house many allied health organisations under the same roof.
Our clinic remained open every single day since despite the upheaval of moving to its current building, snowstorms and the Canterbury earthquakes.
We purchased a smaller building on Brake Street not far from our existing building and opened the doors in April 2018 as GP rooms.
In August 2021, our GP Partners Dr Angus Chambers, Dr Alistair Blomley, Dr Jason Pryken and Dr Alisdair Webb joined partnership with Tamaki Health, who has 52 General Practice and Urgent Care clinics throughout NZ.
We pride ourselves on being a dynamic General Practice and Urgent Care provider that adapts to ensure we always meet the healthcare needs of our community.
Our Culture
We currently have a team of 116+ professionals and are proud of our clinic values based on support, respect and teamwork. Riccarton Clinic hold two regular social events each year, the mid-winter party and the Christmas party. Having a large number of part-time and rostered staff, it is rare that some colleagues get to see one another. These parties are occasions when colleagues get to socialise and catch-up, but it is also an opportunity for partners to learn more about the workmates of their partner. As these events tend to be in the evening. we have also held afternoon picnics at which the children of staff are invited.
